Assets & Services Toolkit

The toolkit contains information, support and resources designed to help you on your journey of taking on community services and assets.

What do we mean by Community Services and Assets?

Community services and assets is the ownership or management of land, building or services such as historical buildings, libraries, sports grounds, leisure centres and much more. Often taking on new services or assets is the result of transfer from a local authority to a community organisation.

Why we’ve made the toolkit

Recent research: “Management and delivery of services and assets in community and town councils: Research with the sector January 2018” points to an increase in services delivered and assets managed over time by community and town councils.

The report recommends that:

Consideration is given to whether the guidance currently available on the management of services and assets could be improved, better signposted or more tailored to the needs of the sector.

What’s in the toolkit

The toolkit is intended as a handy reference guide to kelp you along each step of the process, from feasibility, to start-up right through to managing and maintaining your asset.

To navigate the toolkit, simply choose a topic from the menu on the right hand side of the page. You’ll find guides, checklists, templates, case studies as well as references to funding options here, all in one place. Where information is available, you’ll also be able to search for information filtered by your local authority.

The information collated as part of this toolkit brings together previously published information. Inclusion of links to published documents is not an endorsement of the content. The toolkit is not an exhaustive list of information available about services and asset management in the community council sector in Wales; if you are aware of any others let us know.
